Welcome to the Temple University Department of Chemistry web site! Here you can browse individual labs’ web pages to learn about the exciting research we’re pursuing in areas that are traditional (organic and inorganic chemistry, physical and theoretical chemistry, analytical and biochemistry) and interdisciplinary (surface materials chemistry, chemical biology, nanoplasmonics, and much more).

Our department is affirming and inclusive. Wherever you come from, whatever you look like, whatever your disability, whatever religion you follow, whomever you love...you are welcome here.

Teaching and learning are enormously important to us. We are committed to preparing our trainees (both undergraduates and graduate students) for whatever future they pursue in their professional life. Since 1884, Temple University has been a place where people with ambition can start to realize their dreams. The translation of Temple’s Latin motto is “Perseverance Conquers,” and that is such a great motto in general and specifically for chemistry. It’s literally painted in giant letters on a wall outside one of the chemistry buildings.

Our home is the great city of Philadelphia. There are tremendous resources (and job opportunities!) here, in a city that is relatively affordable. Whatever your interest – great food, sports, arts, history, outdoor recreation, or so much else – you’re going to be impressed by Philadelphia. (This is a very difficult sentence to write for someone who grew up in Pittsburgh, as I did. But it is true.)
