Department Chair
On behalf of the members of the Department of Chemistry, it is a sincere pleasure to welcome you to our Chemistry web site. While browsing through the site you will find that our department offers a chemistry program that is steeped in teaching and research excellence. Our department is built on the teaching and research abilities of world-class faculty with expertise in research fields that include synthetic (in)organic chemistry, chemical biology, materials chemistry with an emphasis on nanotechnology, and physical chemistry that encompasses ultra-fast laser chemistry, plasmonics, spectroscopy, and surface chemistry.

The Temple University Chemistry Department is located in the historic city of Philadelphia. The surrounding area is densely packed with chemical manufacturers, pharmaceutical industry, and biotech companies. This industrial base close to Temple offers students of both our undergraduate and graduate programs a multitude of employment opportunities after graduation.

Temple University was founded in 1884 and presently has a student population of about 35,000. Life on the Temple campus is vibrant with activities for every interest, with sports and theatre being particularly popular. Off campus, the available options only increase with a world-class symphony orchestra, nationally renowned art museum, a full slate of professional sports teams, and of course historical sites connected to the birth of the United States.

We encourage you to contact us at chemgrad@temple.edu to plan a visit to our department.
